The Wrestling Tattoo Hall Of Fame

Each year a new group of wrestlers are inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Inspired by this and other awards ceremonies, 2017 is the inaugural Tattoo Wrestling Hall of Fame event. As the popularity of wrestling tattoos rises, I hope to make this an annual traditional during WrestleMania week.

There are eight wrestlers, each with their own set of tattoo nominees. Only one tattoo can win and be inducted into the Wrestling Tattoo Hall of Fame.

NOMINEES

Mick Foley

Razor Ramon/Scott Hall

The Rock

The Ultimate Warrior

The Undertaker

Hulk Hogan

Kane

‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage

WINNERS

Mick Foley

@kevxlocktattoos Mankind tattoo won The Royal Rumble Of Wrestling Tattoos, and I couldn’t overlook it here despite some fierce competition. Mankind/Mick Foley will forever be remembered as that guy willing to risk his body for our entertainment, so it’s only fitting that a true wrestling fan would go through pain of their own to honour the man himself.

Razor Ramon/Scott Hall

All three of these pieces are worthy of winning but I could pick only one. With all of Scott Hall’s personal struggles being made very public, I choose to remember him as that cocky, fun-loving character, and I feel like Shane Murphy’s tattoo best encompasses the Scott Hall we know and love.

The Rock

Benjamin Laukis nails every tattoo he creates and this Rock tattoo is no exception. Again, all three are worthy winners, however this piece is very clearly a Rock (the wrestler) tattoo and not a Dwayne Johnson (the actor) tattoo, and best suited to the Hall of Fame of Wrestling Tattoos.

The Ultimate Warrior

The look in Ultimate Warrior’s eyes and the whole 80s and 90s vibe to Richard Hart’s tattoo makes it a winner for me.

The Undertaker

This tattoo by Alex Vance encompasses everything I love from old school neo traditional tattooing. There’s that subtle, creepy undertone of the tattoo style which is a match made in heaven (or rather, hell) when it comes to depicting old school Undertaker.

Hulk Hogan

Generally I am partial to black and grey portrait tattoos, but this colour portrait by Carlos Rojas just blows my mind. Upon first look you might mistake it for a photograph – that’s how it incredible it is.

Kane

Kristian Kimonides does incredible colour realism tattoos and this Kane tattoo is no exception; he’s shown wrestling and this wrestling fan the respect they deserve. If I knew the person with this tattoo, I would always have that uneasy feeling that Kane was always watching me, or that things would suddenly burst into flames – but, I love it!

‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage

With Chris Sparks’ tattoo, ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage is still able to drop elbows although he’s no longer here with us.
