The berries that will leave you feeling anything but blue!
And that’s because blueberries aren’t really blue . Blueberries are actually a deep purple colour once they reach maturity. In fact, at no time during the process of a blueberry bush bearing fruit are the actual blueberries blue: they go from pale green, to reddish-purple, and finally a dark purple.
Blueberries were native to North America and found only there until their introduction to Europe in the 1930s. Unsurprisingly, blueberries are quite a popular fruit due to their colour, sweetness and being rich in antioxidants. They have the honour of three national days celebrating the fruit. Tomorrow, March 10 is National Blueberry Popover Day, July 11 is National Blueberry Muffin Day, and September 2 is National Blueberry Popsicle Day.
But, us tattoo collectors don’t need any particular day to celebrate or show appreciation for something we love. Get yourself a blueberry tattoo and you can love and enjoy it all year round.
